Read

... the comics. Maybe you always do. Maybe you throw out everything but the sports section. This week, read some and come back to share a favorite. (By the way, no requirement to read all of them, especially that weird "Alley Oop.")

  1. Hey now, I like Alley Oop. It is that strange one in the Sunday paper ... you know, the one with the knights and the well-endowed ladies, that I have a problem with ... Prince Valiant? I ALWAYS read the comics, except for Family Circus, which I find annoying to the nth degree. My favorite these days is For Better Or Worse. I identify with that mom.

  2. Ah, Prince Valiant. I guess people read that stuff? The same ones that buy those commemorative figurines and plates of Betty Boop in the Sunday coupon pages. Lael, too funny that you like For Better or Worse, I often think of you when I read that strip. And, I remember your issue with Family Circus. But, that is my toddler's favorite. So, we still read it. My boy and hubby like Peanuts (both are reading the full anthology now). My fav is usually Goose & Grimm. This week no comics had me rolling on the floor, but one has stuck with me, it was a "Baby Blues" comic: The mom, annoyed by the noise and violence of a TV show her kids were watching, said to turn it off and play a game, only to have the same types of noise and violence coming from the kids.

  3. For Better or Worse has been my fav since I was a kid. My ultimate fav one: the mom has a friend come over and she is apologizing about her messy house. Her friend starts getting on her about getting down on herself and apologizing about her house. Finally the mom says it's easier to apologize than to clean it up! I totally relate and I always read my favorites before tossing. Alana reads the whole thing every week.
