Listen

... really listen to someone. It might be your eight-year-old son who is obsessed with Legos and Star Wars and builds intricate spaceships with multi-function capabilities, all of which he describes in lengthy dissertations whether you're reading a book, draining boiling water from a pot of pasta, or typing this blog. Stop what you're doing, look into his eyes, and ask questions that demonstrate sincere interest.
Show someone you love them by listening this week.

  1. Good Post Jenn.
You can never have too many reminders to stop and take care of the important. Listening really does show a sincere interest. I know- my mind wonders with some of the stories and descriptions of things. I need to really focus and interact..... come to their level...

    Thanks

  2. So the one time I chose to listen the question that came from my 7 year old's mouth was ,"If I got trapped in Fairytopia, how would you save me? :)

  3. Now, I'm wondering how you answered the Fairytopia question! We'd all like to know! I found stopping to listen to the Lego descriptions a bit of a practice in patience, but--by the end of the week--it came easier and I learned a couple things about turbo-boosters I hadn't known before.

  4. ... and I participated in a ten-minute conversation about whether or not you could eat grass. A fun exercise (and I totally surprised my kids by listening!)
